Global Stone Project

Stone Collection in Berlin Tiergarten

Global_Stone_Project_01 You find this Stone Collection in Berlin Tiergarten, South-West of Brandenburg Gate. This Project was initiated by W. Kraker von Schwarzenfeld who sailed around the world in a three-masted sailboat, lookong for suitable objects for his peace project. He found five pairs of sibling stones of about 30 tons each on five different continents and organized the transport of one sibling of each pair to Berlin in order to arange them in a circle.

Each pair stands for a step in the process of peace.

Europe: Awakening, Africa: Hope, Asia: Forgiveness, America: Love, and Australia: Peace.

Global_Stone_Project_02 Bringing objects like these to a foreign new location is pretty delicate. You have to negotiate with the owners and the local authorties. Sometimes it is not quite clear to whom an object belongs. Is it private property or does it belong to a group of people or even to the government? There might also be more than one party (human or non human) claiming property rights on it.

This happend for example with an object from Venezuela called "Kueka" (whale). After everything seemed to be legally arranged and this stone already found his new place in Berlin-Tiergarten, a group of indigenous people of the tribe of the Pemones claimed it back. In their eyes "Grandmother Kueka" is a sacret object of their people. After new negotiations with the Venezuelan Embassy, the stone went on his journey back home. Global_Stone_Project_02

Von Schwarzenfeld argues in a document - posted on the website of his project - that the members of the Nature Conservation Authority who chose the stone for shipment to Germany belong to the Pemones tribe themselves. Didn't they know about it's secret? At least one of the men asked von Schwarzenfeld to question the stone itself, if it wanted do go with him to Germany.

"I sat on the stone for a long time." he states. "Of course, stones cannot speak. A little impatiently I asked: At least tell me your name so that I can talk to you. The answer came like a blow on the head: Ballena. That means whale."

However this was before the excavator reveiled the true shape of the complete stone half dug under the ground. Von Schwarzenfeld interpreted this as "Let me swim through the Atlantic Ocean!"

This story shows, that there might be also other than what we call the official authorities involved.

Dhyani Ywahoo a member of the first nation people of Cherokee gives us a warning example about people who took Stones from sacred places. It's told, that they got into trouble if they for example took a little stone from Hawaii. Grandmother Pele does'nt like that people steel her things. The energy of her intention to protect the land will follow the people and cause trouble until the stolen object is returned.
